Free performance diagnostic · browser-only

Is the ad fatigued, or did performance move for another reason?

Compare two periods across frequency, click-through rate, cost per acquisition, return on ad spend, and reach. The calculator produces an explainable risk score—not a magic cutoff.

01 · Compare equal periods

Calculate ad fatigue risk.

Use two comparable windows: for example, the last seven complete days versus the previous seven. Do not compare a launch weekend with an ordinary weekday period.

Values stay in your browser. The score is directional and does not replace platform attribution or experiment design.

02 · Read the pattern

What counts as ad fatigue?

TikTok’s current auction guidance identifies the same directional pattern used here: CTR trending down while frequency rises, impressions or reach trending down, and CPA rising or ROAS falling. TikTok also describes a platform Fatigue Index, but that proprietary score is not reproduced by this calculator.

First-party reference: TikTok Web Auction Best Practices. Meta separately recommends creative diversification across formats, placements, and visual concepts in its ad creative guidance.
03 · Refresh the idea

What should I change when an ad is fatigued?

Create meaningful variation. Changing a background color while preserving the same hook, proof, and scene may look new in a file directory but feel identical to the audience.

Hook

Open on a different tension

Move from aspiration to objection, from outcome to mechanism, or from a broad promise to a specific moment of use.

Evidence

Show a different receipt

Rotate between product demonstration, customer language, quantified proof, process evidence, and a clear limitation or tradeoff.

Format

Change how the idea is consumed

Turn a static benefit claim into a demonstration, comparison, founder explanation, customer story, or sequenced carousel.

Audience

Match a different buying situation

Keep the product truth stable while speaking to a distinct trigger, awareness level, objection, or job to be done.

04 · Diagnostic guardrails

Do not blame creative for every performance decline.

Fatigue is only one hypothesis. Before replacing a working concept, check whether the comparison changed for reasons unrelated to repeated exposure.

Possible confounders

Conditions changed

  • Budget, bid strategy, attribution window, or optimization event changed.
  • Inventory, price, promotion, landing page, or tracking changed.
  • The audience narrowed, seasonality shifted, or a competitor entered.
  • A small sample made ordinary variance look dramatic.
Stronger fatigue evidence

Exposure and response moved together

  • The same concept served repeatedly to substantially the same audience.
  • Frequency rose while CTR and reach weakened over comparable periods.
  • CPA or ROAS deteriorated without a corresponding funnel change.
  • A materially different creative recovers performance in a controlled test.
FAQ

AI ad fatigue questions.

Does AI cause ad fatigue?

No. Repeated exposure and declining response cause fatigue. AI can produce more files quickly, but shallow variations may repeat the same concept.

What frequency is too high?

There is no universal cutoff. Audience size, purchase cycle, placement, objective, and creative strength all matter. Interpret frequency alongside CTR, reach, CPA, and ROAS trends.

Should I turn off a fatigued ad immediately?

Not always. Add new creative before removing coverage when possible, then compare the new concept under similar delivery conditions.
